USA at the Crossroads - Revisioning Galtung, Exploring Futures (Session 1: Asia/EU/Africa)

​Johan Galtung famously predicted the fall of the Soviet Union ten years before it happened. This was followed up with another prediction… The fall of the “US Empire”.

​In this session we follow up with our Dec 2024 events which used the work of Johan Galtung to explore the contradictions within US Empire.

​Galtung used a contradictions based scenario method, drawing on the idea that “synchronizing contradictions” which go unresolved eventually lead to a severe disfunction and ultimately breakdown. His hope was that the end of US Empire would usher in a better situation for both Americans and for the world. 

​Now six months into the second Trump presidency, we can draw on his framework to develop a clearer picture of the future.

​This interactive workshop work across his five categories. For each we will look at: 

• ​Galtung's initial hypothesis

• ​Revisit our Dec 2024 review and the new contradictions that surfaced

• ​What do we think now, what new contradictions we see, and what this might mean for the future.

​This is an interactive discussion, with small and large group conversations, which will include ideation and brainstorming via a Miro board. The session will be recorded and published.
