​The CFLS is proud to welcome Senator Kim Pate for a talk about critical connections that shape the work she does on two key social justice issues: her long term law reform work with and on behalf of folks in Canadian prisons and the criminal legal system and her advocacy for social health and economic supports, including a guaranteed liveable income.

​About the Speaker:

​Kim Pate was appointed to the Senate of Canada on November 10, 2016. Before that, Senator Pate was the Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS), a federation of local societies working in coalition with Aboriginal women, women with mental health issues and other disabling conditions, young women, visible minority and immigrant women, poor women and those isolated and otherwise deprived of potential sources of support. She is a nationally renowned advocate who has spent nearly 40 years working in and around the legal and penal systems of Canada and on behalf of some of the most marginalized, victimized, criminalized and institutionalized members of Canadian society. Senator Pate’s work has been instrumental in building coalitions across the country with other equality-seeking, anti-racism, anti-poverty and human rights groups and organizations.
