About Event

Yoga for Service Industry Workers

An open-level, self-care focused practice series centering service industry and hospitality workers, current and former. We will explore mindful movement, our breath, and self-reflection, employing the tools of Yoga practice and philosophy as pathways to balance our minds and bodies. We will practice moving from the highly externalized, productivity/labor-centric mindset of hospitality and service work, into a space of internal awareness, self-attunement, and personal agency. Our sessions will highlight restoring our nervous systems, addressing the physical stressors of service-based work, and inquiring inward so we can slow down.

Options for incorporating supportive props into asanas will be offered, though not required. If you are interested in exploring working with props, here are a few options for what you may want to have handy: blocks (sub: large books, low footstools), blankets (sub: towels), chairs (sub: anything you can comfortable sit on), cushions (sub: pillows from bed, couch cushions), straps (sub: scarves, belts). Other objects to incorporate might include: candles, incense, eye mask, water, tea, or anything that you find supportive.

Can’t make it live? No problem. The practices will be recorded and shared via email.

About Hope: Hope Sudarshan Glastris (she/her) is a Punjabi-Greek-American artist, designer, and yoga practitioner living in Brooklyn, New York (Lenape Land). Her work as an artist is deeply connected to her yoga practice, and believes that through curiosity, creativity, and self-knowledge, each individual can find agency and the capacity to transform. She shares yoga as a vessel of the wisdom of her ancestors, incorporating the full breadth of yoga practice and philosophy, beyond just the physical aspects. Hope seeks to create space where students can access their agency and be empowered in their own yoga practice.
