[CO]here: Families Who Care for Families Who Care
Join us for discussion, play, and connection exploring how we can better care for family in community.
Using “mutual aid” as a lens, this is an opportunity to hear from those in our community who are caring for children, elders, folks with disabilities, or all of the above. We’ll explore what resilience would look like and what supports would make that possible.
We'll bring:
Blankets, cushions and chairs
Food
Wraps (some vegan/GF)
Kid friendly snacks: chips/fruit
Tea
Kid friendly crafts
Adults who love to play with kids, allowing adults to converse
Community agreements:
Invitation to share as much or as little as you choose
Leave room for others to share
No unsolicited advice, please
Expect and accept non-closure
Some Prompts thanks to Anne Helen Petersen
How resilient do you feel right now? How has that changed from different points in your life? What makes you feel more or less resilient — and what do you do when you realize you need more of it?
If you’re a caregiver - parent, teacher, person who spends a lot of time with kids {and/or elders and/or people with disabilities} - how do you think about resilience as a life skill?
Should we be thinking more about cultivating resilience … or more about cultivating a society that requires less of it? And how has complimenting someone/a group of people for being “resilient” become a way of not grappling with the larger societal forces that have forced them to become so?
