Join us for a special screening of The Great Yawn of History by Aliyar Rasti which received the Special Jury Prize in the Encounters section of Berlinale 2024, featuring Saber Abar and Mohammad Aghebati.
If you are interested in the independent cinema scene of Iran and its emerging artists, join the VIP Reception afterward to meet with Mohammad Aghebati (actor and producer) and Mehrnoush Alia (producer). We will have a Q&A with them and the director. They will share stories from the hidden world of independent filmmaking in Iran and showcase emerging film projects. We’ll screen a few trailers and short films and provide drinks and food (as always).
This is a great chance to meet fellow filmmakers, actors, and movie lovers while supporting bold, independent Iranian cinema. The collected funds will go directly to support these independent artists' upcoming film projects.
Film Synopsis: The Great Yawn of History
Beitollah dreams of gold coins in a cave. Seeking a non-religious assistant, he recruits Shoja via fake bills. They search caves across Iran unsuccessfully. An innkeeper suspects their quest and secretly follows on his motorcycle.
Director Biography: Aliyar Rasti
Born in Tehran, Iran in 1988, he began his career in photography, video and video installations before gradually moving towards his true passion of filmmaking. He has made more than ten music videos for independent Iranian bands which have screened at various festivals. His first short film, In Between, won the Best Debut Film award at the 2018 Tirana International Film Festival. It was followed by America, his second short. Rasti's debut feature film, The Great Yawn of History, received the Special Jury Prize in the Encounters section of Berlinale 2024, marking a significant milestone in his career.
