Revolutionists’ Night in SF
Revolutionists' Night was originally started in India in 2022 as a way to tap into the spirit of prior revolutionaries who would meet in pubs and debate movements strategy and apply this to ending factory farming and achieve animal liberation. It has slowly spread to other cities with anyone being able to host these on their own. This is the first time this event will be happening in the Bay Area!
Topic: How good is cage-free?
Reading: DXE's lit review and criticism of cage-free corporate campaigns (2016), Open Phil's response (2017) or Welfare Footprint's Analysis of welfare in cage-free systems (2021 - recommended by Lewis Bollard because the data is more recent and there was much more time spent on research)
(TLDR notes)
Tonight we will discuss the various arguments and evidence cited in the readings. We will take a look at how the cage-free movement has progressed since and whether there are any ongoing debates about the goodness or badness of cage-free systems for laying hens.
Our chat will be centered around the report, but no worries if you don’t have time to read it! We'll provide enough context for everyone to contribute.
