About Event

ā€‹Join us to evaluate and understand the democratic challenges from AI. šŸ“£ This Equiano Institute and Apart Research presents "AI and Democracy in Africa" hackathon aimed at exploring the intricate relationship between artificial intelligence and democratic processes across the African continent. AI and Democracy Hackathon focuses on Evaluating the Risks of AI technologies on deliberation and evaluating digital public infrastructure deployment of AI, and potentially transforming governance in African nations.

ā€‹Despite the many potential benefits of the technology (such as equalizing opportunity, creating wealth, and improving coordination), we are also facing significant risks from AI.

ā€‹With many elections taking place soon and the prevalence of fake news, cybercrime, and polarization in the modern infosphere, creating an early immune response to these AI risks will be important.

ā€‹Together, we will be hacking away to showcase and understand which challenges will arise in the meeting between AI and democracy.

ā€‹ā†©ļøŽ Sign up below to join us for a weekend where we'll hear from experts in AI governance and collaborate in teams to identify, evaluate, and propose solutions to key challenges at the intersection of AI and democracy.

ā€‹This session is not just an opportunity to gain insights from leading voices in the field but also a chance to engage in meaningful dialogue about the challenges and opportunities that AI presents to democratic institutions in Africa.
