About Event

Summary 🏔

Learning is the primary skill all humans employ from the time they are born. Drawing inference from experience to inform future interactions. But what formats work best for you? What styles should you seek out as you embark on a lifetime of learning? In this salon, we’ll work together to deeply inspect how each of us learn & the implications for our personal growth going forward.

We’ll do this with a hands-on approach to a variety of learning styles each week and reflect on their merits, applications, and shortfalls for us personally while learning something new and fun :)

Curriculum 📚

Week 1: We’ll gather to understand each person's intuited learning style, objectives for these sessions, and ‘sign up’ for teacher / student roles for the rest of the salon.

Weeks 2-5: 90 minutes of fun learning, 30 minutes of self-reflection and discussion

  • Colearning: two people learn a specific skill or topic together (e.g. co-writing haikus, how to generate music with jukebox AI)

  • Peer to peer: two people teach each other a different topic (e.g. person A teaches B guitar chords, person B teaches A chess strategies)

  • Discussion: a group of people actively learn a topic together (e.g. a discussion on the best diet for longevity, a discussion on biophilic design)

  • Lecture: one person teaches a topic to a group, others ask questions (e.g. group expert teaches science of climate change, expert teaches foundations of fiction writing)

  • Self-taught: each person sections off to learn something on their own (e.g. math topic from 3blue1brown, deploying a smart contract)

  • Physical education: develop new physical skills through movement (e.g. group acrobatics session, group ceramics class) - escape the classroom!

Week 6: Synthesizing our learnings (and memories 🙂) from the last 6 weeks to draw conclusions on what styles seemed to work best for the group, what styles work best for you personally, and how you can apply these newfound insights on this journey called life.
