Knaresborough Bed Race! 🛏️🏁
The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is something different: it is part fancy dress pageant and part gruelling time trial over a 2.4-mile course, ending with a swim through the icy waters of the River Nidd.
First staged in 1966, Bed Race has spawned other similar events in the USA, Germany, New Zealand and elsewhere in the UK. It is great fun, an amazing spectacle and, being held in Yorkshire, a truly serious competitive effort, pitting teams against their fiercest rivals, their erstwhile friends or even against themselves. Whatever happens, it is never good enough and each vows to be back to do better next year!
So come along to the Knaresborough Castle Grounds at 10:45am where there will be a display of 90 beds/teams all donned in their bed gear. From here we'll have a bite to eat, so either bring some food with you or bring money, ready for the parade to start at 1pm and the race at 3pm. Its fun for all ages and walks of life! You won't see another event like it (well, unless you watch the redbull soapbox race lol!).
Accessibility: Dietary is up to yourselves, we can avoid the stairs and steepest slopes down to the viewing areas, but I will warn that the town gets super busy so there may not be much room on pavements for wheelchairs. Bring a fold up camping chair if you need to stop for a breather.
