Early Career Psychoanalytic Case Conference
Join us in person for the Early Career Psychoanalytic Case Conference this spring.
We extend this invitation to early career therapists of any mental health discipline who are pre-licensed or up to five years post-licensure. The focus of each 12-week course is transference/countertransference. Three group members will have the opportunity to present a case over three sessions. We invite participants to experientially discover how their unique reverie (individual thoughts, bodily sensations, and emotions) can provide the group with working transferential material to better understand how psychoanalytic process unfolds. Just as a dream contains innumerable, mysterious meanings, the presentation of a clinical hour can hold many possible interpretations and revelations. Sharing one’s work is an act of vulnerability and trust; in order to facilitate the cohesion of the group, consistent and punctual attendance is requested (barring emergencies and unavoidable circumstances). Each course is limited to 8 participants. The continuity of working in a group over a number of weeks offers members time to develop their capacity to think and expand their clinical abilities.
In addition, responsive to the sociopolitical context in which we live, the case conference will integrate psychoanalytic thinking about key issues such as: how individuals, families, and communities are bearing greater uncertainty in times of pandemics and climate change; the impact of remote therapy and technology on the therapeutic relationship; and the intersectionality of identities such as, but not limited to, race, gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic status. Group leaders and members strive to engender an environment of curiosity, listening to other perspectives, and mutual respect. We are pleased to offer this case conference in person.
