About Event

Join us at the Wharf for an evening of film, conversation, and curiosity about artificial general intelligence (AGI).

We’re screening The Thinking Game, a new documentary that goes inside DeepMind as it works on developing an AI that surpasses human abilities.

After the screening, stay for a panel discussion and Q&A exploring the big questions surrounding AGI. How we define it, whether we’ll ever truly achieve it, and how it could reshape the way we think about intelligence, progress, and ourselves.

The ticket includes refreshments, so come along, have a drink, and connect with others who are interested in where AGI might take us.

Panelists include:

Konstantinos Mitsides, PhD Student

Konstantinos Mitsides is a PhD student in Artificial Intelligence at Imperial College London, based in the Adaptive & Intelligent Robotics Lab. His research centers on developing learning algorithms for generally capable agents, with a focus on reinforcement learning and evolutionary algorithms. His recent work was published at the GECCO 2025 conference. He holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from Imperial College London and a BSc in Mathematics from UCL. Konstantinos also contributes as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, supporting courses and MSc thesis supervision in Artificial Intelligence.

Giulia Trojano, Competition Lawyer

Giulia is a competition lawyer, focusing on disputes with a tech and environmental angle. She is currently undertaking an interdisciplinary Masters in AI Ethics & Society at the University of Cambridge. She writes for several journals on the interplay between technology, politics and society. Recent publications include a paper for Oxford Intersections on whether users of digital companion apps should have “rights against erasure”. She was recognised in the "100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics 2025" list.

The Thinking Game takes you on a fascinating journey into the heart of DeepMind, one of the world’s leading AI labs, as it strives to unravel the mysteries of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Inside DeepMind’s London headquarters, founder Demis Hassabis and his team are relentlessly pursuing the creation of AI that matches or surpasses human abilities on a wide range of tasks.

Filmed over five years, the documentary puts viewers in the room for the pivotal moments of this quest, including the groundbreaking achievement of AlphaFold, a program that solved a 50-year grand challenge in biology.

This film captures the exhilaration of historic breakthroughs like AlphaFold, the crushing weight of disappointment during setbacks, and the unwavering pursuit of knowledge that defines Demis’ commitment to scientific innovation. This film invites viewers to witness one of the most important scientific adventures of our time, exploring the potential of AGI to reshape our world.
