age¹ x Gordian Bio Happy Hour w/ Eric Sun
What do the world’s most influential and successful tech companies have in common? They were born from the minds of visionary individuals - Our brains give us the creative power to come up with breakthrough ideas, challenge the status quo and ultimately change the world.
Even as we strive to create artificial brains, we’ll want to understand the structure of our own brains and how and why our cognitive function degrades. So we are incredibly excited to be hosting Eric Sun to talk about recent work (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.07.16.603809v1) both mapping and deciphering brain aging. The Brunet (Stanford Genetics) & Zou (Stanford ML) labs collaborated to create a detailed map of 4.2 million mouse brain cells and developed computational models to study cell interactions as the brain ages. They found that aging T cells make nearby cells age faster through inflammation, while neural stem cells help rejuvenate neighboring cells. These findings suggest that targeting specific cells could help slow down or reverse brain aging.
