Inauguration Ceremony of a Mayan Alux House
Join us at Nest Coworking Garden for a special event on Thursday, June 13, at 11 AM. We are celebrating the Inauguration Ceremony of the Mayan Alux House of Nest.
Event Purpose:
In the Riviera Maya, it is customary to build a tiny house for Aluxes, the mystical guardians of the land. This ceremony seeks permission from these guardians for construction projects or to bless a business, ensuring harmony and protection.
About the Alux Tradition:
Have you ever heard of the Aluxes? These small, mystical beings are a fundamental part of Mayan culture, believed to have existed for centuries. Often likened to elves or gnomes, Aluxes are considered protectors of the jungle, forests, rocks, and crops. According to legend, they are only about 30 centimeters tall and possess the ability to mimic animals and throw stones to scare humans.
Aluxes were very real to the ancient Mayans, who revered them as significant presences in their daily lives. Though not considered gods, Aluxes were honored with offerings such as food and flowers in exchange for their protection and assistance.
Aluxes dwell in special houses called "kahtal alux," meaning "the quarters." These structures, found throughout the Riviera Maya, Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, vary in size and shape but share the common purpose of keeping Aluxes content.
According to Mayan legend, high priests created Aluxes from clay taken from a cave untouched by women. This clay was shaped into the form of an Aluxe and mixed with honey, flowers, and nine drops of blood. After nine nights in the shade, the creation process was complete.
Invitation:
We invite all Nesties to participate in this meaningful ceremony and bring offerings to honor the Aluxes. Let's come together to celebrate and respect this ancient tradition, ensuring prosperity and protection for our community.
