We at the Carbon Removal Challenge have always maintained the future of CDR will come from University faculty and students. And we're not the only ones.

OpenAir co-founder Matt Parker will moderate a panel of experts to discuss the important higher education is to increasing available workforce for carbon removal and their vital importance to accelerating its advancement . The Panelist will be Mijndert van der Spek, lead author on the recently published paper "Universities must lead capacity building in carbon dioxide removal;" Chris Sherwood; Secretary-General of the Negative Emissions Platform; and Dr. XiaoYu Wu, Assistant professor in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo and advisor to 3 CRC finalist teams!

Mijndert van der Spek is an Associate Professor at Heriot Watt University where he co-directs the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions. Originally training in energy systems engineering and policy, he now works on the process systems engineering site of carbon dioxide removal and CCUS.

Chris Sherwood is Secretary-General of the Negative Emissions Platform (NEP), the Brussels-based trade association for the Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) industry. NEP’s mission is to promote CDR and advocate for it to have a proper role in climate policy.

Dr. XiaoYu Wu is an assistant professor in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His research group, Greener Production Group combines expertise in system optimization, process integration, and techno-economics to study sustainable technologies for energy conversion and chemical production
