Words That Shimmer: Creativity as a Catalyst for Social Change
Facilitated by: Adama Sanneh & Lwando Xaso, Moleskine Foundation
Session Overview
Established in 2021 by the Moleskine Foundation, the Creativity Pioneers Fund provides unrestricted financial support to Creativity Pioneers, non-profit organizations around the world, that are addressing social and environmental issues through creativity and culture.
What if words could transform the way we approach social change? This session is an immersive, participatory experience that blends storytelling, music, poetry, and creative expression to explore how creativity fuels transformation.
Through the wisdom, lived experiences, and artistry of the Creativity Pioneers Fund and the pioneering changemakers in attendance, we will unpack creativity as a tool for resilience, activism, and reimagining new futures. This is not a lecture—it’s a mash-up of a town hall, spoken-word session, and a South African lekgotla (a community gathering under a tree).
What to Expect:
Facilitated Connection – Small group interactions to foster deep conversations.
Words That Shimmer – Creativity Pioneers will share their work through poetry, music, film, and literature, featuring:
Jemilea (Writerz and Scribez) – Mental health storytelling through poetry (South London).
Thulani (Bridges for Music) – The sound of social transformation in Langa Township, Cape Town.
7 Hills – The poetics of skateboarding as an act of self-expression in Jordan.
Kenji Maghoma – Senior Producer and Creative Practitioner, LAGO Collective
Audience-Led Exploration – Interactive discussion with Creativity Pioneers, followed by provocations and reflections from both the audience and speakers.
Adama Sanneh & Lwando Xaso will introduce the concept of a beautiful question, inviting participants to co-create and share their own—questions that challenge, inspire, and guide creative action for social impact.
