On Thursday 17th we are going to hike from San Lorenzo de El Escorial to the highest peak in the area, Monte Abantos, and from there we will also visit the nearby viewpoint of La Naranjera with great views over the valley of Cuelgamuros. On our way we will also check the old snow wells that used to provide Madrid with cold beverages during the old days.
In this hike we will get to enjoy spectacular views of both the Valley of the Fallen and the the Monastery of El Escorial, both of which are unique monuments of the Spanish history.

➡ MEETING POINT AND HOW TO GET THERE
We are MEETING at 10:00h at San Lorenzo del Escorial
BY CAR - We are meeting at 9:00h at Paseo de Moret 1 (near Moncloa Transport Hub). Los que vayan en coche nos encontraremos a las 9:00h en el Paseo de Moret 1 (muy cerca del intercambiados de Moncloa):

BY BUS - Take the 661 bus from Moncloa Intercambiador at 9:00 am. (Isla 1, Nivel -1, Dársena 11). Please double check the platform at arrival. The bus leaves promptly at 9:00, so please plan to arrive a little earlier before the bus departure (8:45 will be fine) to secure a place in the bus.
Also allow yourself some extra time as metro and buses run less frequently on weekends than on weekdays. Get off the bus at El Escorial bus station, last stop, where we will waiting for you.
As usual, we will coordinate all hikers through a WhatsApp group and try to allocate as many of you as possible in the available cars. Please, do not forget to introduce your WhatsApp number when signing up.
Also, let us know if you are driving there and you hace free spots in your car to accomdate other hikers :)
➡ WHAT TO BRING / QUÉ LLEVAR.
Hiking shoes or mountain boots. Trail running sneakers are ok as well.
A small backpack for your stuff.
1,5of water or other soft drinks per person. PLEASE DON´T BRING LESS
Your lunch. As usual a midmorning snack will be provided.
Sunscreen & sunglasses.
A hat or a cap.
Gloves and a scarf.
A fleece or warm sweatshirt.
A windjacket or a coat.
And bring yourself ready to enjoy a wonderful and fun hike with like-minded people! :)
We expect to be back at Moncloa intercambiador around 19:30h. However, bear in mind that the expected time is approximated since hiking depends on the group's pace and any other circumstances that might arise along the hike.
