Young Hack: Digital camp 6 (ages 11-16)
Use creative technology to uncover the entertainment history of the Old High Street Intra!
Join us in February and April 2025, for a special series of Young Hack digital camps for 11-16 yr olds at Sun Pier House, Chatham.
Get to interview local cultural figures and uncover their living memories of the area. Use iPad voice recorders and 3D scanning apps, whilst analysing digitised photo, VHS and archive newspaper records. What new stories will you uncover?
There will be chance to also dabble in animation, VR and augmented reality as ways to retell these stories.
Digital camps
The camps are on:
18 February - Digital camp 1
19 February - Digital camp 2
8 April - Digital camp 5
9 April - Digital camp 6
There are also Digital camps available for 16-18 yr olds. See our other listings.
Each camp runs from 10am-4pm and will be based at Sun Pier House, Medway St, Chatham ME4 4HF.
Led by our experienced creative facilitators, each day will have a different focus and you can book your child onto more than one.
No experience or equipment is required. Spaces are heavily subsidised but we are asking parents/guardians to contribute a small amount on a pay what you can afford basis per child, per day. This contribution helps cover the cost of a certificate and a downloadable copy of your child's digital work. Early booking is recommended.
At the beginning of each day (10am) we will meet parents, guardians and young people in the Sun Pier House car park by the Anchor at the car park's entrance.
We ask that young people bring their own lunch. After booking we will email you a link to fill out a short registration form prior to your child/children attending.
All workshops are part of our bigger heritage project - Intra Stories.
Intra Stories
Intra Stories is our new project for young people to uncover the entertainment history in and around the Old High Street Intra, Chatham and Rochester.
From the lively theatres and cinemas to the rich music, punk and LGBTQ+ scenes, what we uncover and capture digitally will lead to the making of interactive animated hoardings and an augmented reality 'zine, launching in October 2025 during Electric Medway Festival. Work created by young people in the Digital Camps may feature in the final hoardings and 'zine, where they will individually be credited.
Acknowledgement: Intra Stories is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with partner support from Medway Council, Historic Dockyard Chatham and the Intra Community Trust.
