Making Grief Visible: A Design Research Approach to Healing Through Art

Grief unfolds differently for everyone—shaped by culture, beliefs, and how we talk (or don’t talk) about it. Art therapist and design strategist Tanvi Mehta will guide us through a reflective art therapy experience focused on grief and healing. This virtual workshop will also touch on Tanvi's experience with therapeutic research, design thinking, and storytelling for her newly launched children's book on grief.

Together, we’ll explore how designers can thoughtfully engage with difficult emotions in our research using language and visuals that feel culturally respectful and emotionally resonant, especially when working with children.

About the Speaker

Tanvi Mehta is a New York–based pre-licensed art therapist, artist, and design strategist. A graduate of NYU’s MA Art Therapy program, her work centers around supporting emotional wellbeing through creativity, compassion, and curiosity. Tanvi brings a culturally sensitive lens to her practice and integrates diverse cultural narratives into her therapeutic and creative work. She works across age groups and backgrounds—from children processing grief and identity, to adults navigating trauma and healing. She is the founder of @de.tan.gle, a digital platform dedicated to creative mental health resources, and the author of a newly released children’s book on grief (now available on Amazon!).

A Zoom link will be provided to all registrants on the day of the event. All are welcome (this includes our non-women allies). We look forward to this event with you!
