Week 3: Business and The Economy

​​Guest speakers- Vanessa Wu '14 & Chanwool Kim '12

Moderator- Jimmy Holloran '03 recently joined American Industrial Partners in March 2023 as an Operating Partner, leading their Human Capital Practice. In that capacity, he supports talent acquisition, talent development, and talent assessment efforts across their portfolio of 25 industrial businesses. He most recently served as Operating Partner at ParkerGale Capital where he led the the firm's talent strategy as well. Previously, he spent time driving talent strategy at Home Chef, an L Catterton-backed meal kit company. Prior to that, he was a consultant at Bain and Company, where he led a variety of projects including growth strategy and M&A. He spent time early in his career at Teach For America and Nortel Networks. JImmy holds a BA in Philosophy from Northwestern University, an MEd from University of Missouri-St. Louis, and an MBA from Yale School of Management.

Guest speaker- Vanessa Wu '14 graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2014 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a second major in Economics & Strategy. After college, Vanessa spent ~4 years at Boston Consulting Group where she focused on strategy topics and the Power & Utility sector. During her time at BCG, she also took a secondment at NextEra Energy, working as a Project Manager to help facilitate California’s shift towards a zero-carbon economy. Vanessa is currently an MBA candidate at Harvard Business School.

Guest Speaker - Chanwool Kim ’12 graduated from the University of Chicago in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (with Honors), in Public Policy Studies (with Honors), and in Statistics, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Now, Chanwool is a PhD student at the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. He is an applied microeconomist with a focus on public and labour economics, interested in investigating equilibrium outcomes and optimal policy design in situations where public and private programs overlap or compete, and how such program interactions influence the behavior of those affected by relevant government policies. His research includes topics related to human capital and education, public transportation system, and social security benefits.
