Embroidery Workshop with Bailha
Join us for an intimate and hands-on Madeira Embroidery Workshop hosted by Bailha, a contemporary cultural fashion brand rooted in the centuries-old embroidery tradition of Madeira Island.
The workshop is hosted in collaboration with White Label Project - a concept store and community platform for impact-led design brands and artists from all over the world. With its first concept store and gallery space in Berlin, White Label Project aims to create a place for intercultural exchange, creative collaborations, and the celebration of global cultures.
About the workshop:
In this session, you’ll be guided through the process of hand-embroidering your own unique tote bag using the basic traditional stitches passed down through generations of women artisans in Madeira. We will provide you with drawings related to the Madeiran visual world so you can embroider. This workshop is a moment to slow down, reconnect with craft, and learn about a cultural practice that carries deep historical and emotional value.
The workshop will be led by a master embroiderer from Madeira, Dorina Pita, who will share her knowledge, through stitching techniques such as ponto corda, garanito, and matiz, while Bailha’s founder, David Oliveira, will introduce the historic and cultural significance of embroidery and visual language behind the brand.
What’s Included:
A high-quality organic cotton tote bag, embroidery threads, needle, thimble and fingertip
A hands-on tutorial in basic Madeira embroidery techniques
Storytelling about the history, women, and resilience behind Madeira’s craft culture
Who is this for?
This workshop is open to all levels, from curious beginners to experienced stitchers. Whether you're passionate about slow fashion, heritage crafts, or simply want to experience the meditative joy of embroidery, you’ll leave with new skills and a meaningful keepsake of your own making.
