About Event

What does it take to self-publish a book that keeps readers turning pages? How can writers use KDP not just to publish, but to thrive?

Join us for a behind-the-scenes conversation with Jen Barrett, UK Lead at Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), Amazon’s self-publishing service. In this Q&A, we’ll talk about everything from how to make the most of KDP’s publishing tools, to what makes a book stand out to readers—and to the judges of the Kindle Storyteller Award.

Whether you're curious about KDP, actively preparing a book for release, or eyeing the Storyteller Award, join us as we explore how to self-publish a successful book and get it in front of readers, reviewers, and award judges alike.

We’ll also explore:

  • What KDP offers and why it remains a top choice for self-publishing

  • What types of books perform best on the bestseller rankings

  • Common pitfalls to avoid when publishing with KDP

  • What the Kindle Storyteller Award is, and why it’s worth your attention

  • What the judges look for in submissions (and how to stand out)

  • How KDP supports both new and established authors

About the Kindle Storyteller Award

First launched in 2016, the Kindle Storyteller Award celebrates great indie storytelling. The contest is open to submissions of new books in the English language, published using Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) between 1 May and 31 August. Titles must be previously unpublished, be made available in both eBook and Print formats (with a minimum of 24 pages in print), and they must be enrolled in KDP Select while they are in the running for the competition. All genres are eligible. Readers can access all titles entered into the prize in print or on the Kindle eReader or on the free Kindle app for iOS, Android and Fire devices. Print copies will also be available to buy on the Amazon.co.uk store. The winner will be announced in autumn this year. For full entry requirements, and terms and conditions, visit amazon.co.uk/Storyteller
