Making Friends with Your Creative Practice
Do you want a creative practice, but you don't know how to make it happen? Did you have one before, but you're afraid it's not possible in your current life?
Do you already have a creative practice, but something about it isn't working for you? You're uninspired or frustrated.
A creative practice, just like any other habit, has its natural ebbs and flows. When it's going well, our practice supports us in everything we want to do (in art and in life). But sometimes we hit a bump — or a break — or an unintentional years-long hiatus. How do we find our way to where we want to be?
This workshop offers a gentle, encouraging container for getting friendly with our creative practice, wherever we are in our journey with it. We'll talk, listen, reflect, move, and feel our way around our current creative needs and how to build a practice that works for us. You won't get a magical how-to guide (unless you write it yourself during our time together!), but you will come out of this session with more clarity, empowerment, and self-compassion around your creative practice, whatever it looks like for you right now.
Class fees:
This workshop is offered on a sliding scale. Please pay what makes sense for your situation. If the lowest end of the scale is still out of reach for you, please contact Lisa.
What to expect:
The workshop will be about equal parts supported sharing/listening, and (again, supported) processing on our own. You may share to the degree that you're comfortable doing so. You are welcome to process via journaling/writing or some other format that works for you. Class size is limited so we can all have time for sharing, and space to be alone with our thoughts.
I will have paper and writing/drawing tools available, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer. I’ll also provide water/tea/snacks.
If you want to make notes on a laptop, or do some movement/stretching/thinking on a yoga mat, please bring your own.
About the facilitator:
Lisa Hsia is a writer and artist in Oakland. She and her creative practices have evolved together through moves and travels, parenting, shifting health and energy needs, and other challenges. As a teacher, she loves meeting people where they are, and helping them tap into what is already beautifully creative and powerful in themselves.
Please feel free to contact Lisa with questions!
