About Event

Join us for an evening of cultural exchange and direct support for the Nomanawa Village in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. Your contribution helps preserve Indigenous wisdom and protect critical rainforest territory.

This gathering emerges from CURA's year-long collaboration with the Noke Koi people — an immersive work-in-progress film and installation about guardian tribes in the Amazon and their relationship with the forest, including the Noke Koi of the Nomanawa Village in Acre, Brazil.

We're excited to announce that Chief Yama Nomanawa, Paje Sheka Nomanawa, Txana Ãta Nomanawa & Txana Vari Nomanawa from the Noke Koi Nation will join us for this remarkable evening. Vari, the Chief’s daughter, is the very first woman of the village to ever leave the region and it’s an honor to have her “força feminina” with us in the US for the first time.

If you haven't heard of the Noke Koi people before, it's probably because they've been very immersed in the Forest. Unlike other more-known and exposed tribes, they have kept their traditions and customs to themselves for a very long time and are now starting to open up to the Western world. They still speak their mother tongue – Noke Vana – and some have slowly been learning Portuguese as a way to share their wisdom and knowledge with us, because they strongly believe the world needs indigenous knowledge in order for the Amazon Rainforest and Mother Nature to be preserved.

Join us at The Hummingbird Temple to learn more about the Noke Koi culture; their music, their stories and their medicines, and to help support the Nomanawa Village and the Amazon Rainforest.

ABOUT THE NOKE KOI PEOPLE

"Noke Koî" means original/true people. They consider themselves to be the "True People of the Amazon Rainforest".

Their story says they came out of the Earth, breathed into life by Kokapino Txari (the Great Spirit), who showed them how to live. They received knowledge on how/what to eat, what medicines to use and how, as well as prayers and dietas to strengthen the body and spirit.

They still preserve their traditional ways and only a few speak Portuguese – their native tongue is Nokevana and it is spoken by everyone in the tribe.

ABOUT CURA

CURA is a groundbreaking immersive audio/visual  experience that transports audiences into the heart of the Amazon rainforest through the lives of three Indigenous guardian tribes, including the Nomanawa Village of the Noke Koi People. More than a documentary, CURA is designed as a healing ceremony that reveals the profound connection between plant medicine, forest wisdom, and our collective survival.

This evening serves two vital purposes:

Supporting the Nomanawa Village: 100% of your ticket contribution goes directly to the community—supporting sustainable livelihoods, forest protection, and cultural preservation in Acre, Brazil.

Advancing the CURA Project: This is also a rare opportunity to support the completion of this crucial climate and healing work. You'll experience our 6-minute work-in-progress film, meet the creative team, and learn how CURA is building bridges between Indigenous wisdom and global climate action.

Meet the Artists: Artist/Director Mahyad Tousi, Producer Dominic Musacchio, and Cinematographer Matt Nauser will be present to share the journey, discuss the project's impact, and explore partnership opportunities with attendees.

Crafted to mirror a healing ritual, CURA weaves a gripping tale of interconnection, devastation, and the potential for spiritual and ecological rebirth. The evening includes film screening, artist conversation, live Noke Koi music, rapé circle, crafts market, and traditional storytelling.

Your participation supports both immediate village needs and a work designed to transform how the world connects with the Amazon Rainforest at this critical moment.
