"Don’t trust someone who can’t throw a good party!"

Founder of Glitch, the friendly developer community where coders have collaborated to create and share millions of web apps, Anil Dash will says, “Don’t trust someone who can’t throw a good party.” That goes for our social platforms as well. For this Digital Playground focus on how we apply real-world community building principles to online for how we design for digital communities to thrive, and experiment with your own ideas.

Digital Playground Series structure:

  • Playground (30-40 minutes)

  • Recess (10 minutes)

  • Sandbox (30-40 minutes)

Facilitator Bio:

Anil Dash leads the team behind Glitch, the friendly developer community where coders have collaborated to create and share millions of web apps, serving as CEO of Glitch until its acquisition by Fastly. Honored by the Webby Awards with its lifetime achievement award in 2022, Dash is recognized as a leading advocate for more humane, inclusive and ethical technology through his work as an entrepreneur, activist and writer. He serves as a board member for organizations like the Electronic Frontier Foundation, The Markup, and the Lower East Side Girls Club, which serves girls and families in need in New York City.

Digital playgrounds is a monthly virtual program series hosted by New_ Public and All Tech Is Human, in the spirit of discovery, experimentation, and creation of healthier digital public spaces. The Digital Playground Series is part of New_ Public and All Tech Is Human’s year-long partnership as part of Community by Design, with the support of the Unfinished Network, to identify, define and map thriving healthy digital public spaces focused on building pluralistic, inclusive, open online spaces, and prioritizing the needs of their communities.
