Towards AI-Driven Superhuman Reasoning in Mathematics and Beyond | A UPenn Lecture Sponsored by Turing
You are invited to join a special virtual stream of Prof. Mayur Naik’s CIS 7000 course on Large Language Models at the University of Pennsylvania, sponsored by Turing.
Speaker: Thang Luong, Senior Staff Research Scientist, Google DeepMind
Abstract:
In this talk, Thang Luong will discuss recent advances in AI for mathematics, including groundbreaking projects like AlphaGeometry and AlphaProof. He will also share his insights on the future of AI and the broader vision of enhancing reasoning capabilities in existing AI systems.
Bio:
Thang Luong is a Senior Staff Research Scientist and Senior Manager at Google DeepMind, formerly Google Brain. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2016, pioneering the field of deep learning for machine translation. At Google, Dr. Luong has built state-of-the-art models in both language and vision, such as ELECTRA and NoisyStudent. He co-founded Project Meena, introducing the world’s best chatbot in 2020, which evolved into Google LaMDA in 2021. Since 2022, Dr. Luong has co-led the development of Bard Multimodality and serves as the principal investigator for AlphaGeometry, a project published in Nature (2024) that solves Olympiad-level geometry problems and competes at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Recently, he led Google’s Superhuman Reasoning team to develop the first AI to achieve a Silver medalist level at IMO 2024.
