Talk Shop: Repair
We’re kicking off a new PechaKucha-style event series at Ours called Talk Shop. We're looking for 3 to 4 presenters to share rapid-fire talks around a central theme. If you have a project, idea, tool, or tangle you’re working through, we would love to hear from you.
What is a PechaKucha?
PechaKucha (Japanese for “chit-chat”) is a presentation format where each speaker shares 20 slides for 20 seconds each, for a total of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. It is quick, visual, and designed to energize. Think poetic lecture meets design sprint. Brief, visual storytelling that opens space for unexpected ideas to land.
July's Theme: Repair
We are exploring repair as a creative and critical practice. That could mean mending garments, debugging code, salvaging broken objects, reworking systems, or tending to relationships. Repair can be tactile, emotional, technological, poetic, or speculative.
We welcome submissions from anyone working in or around creative technology, design, craft, art, software, organizing, writing, or research. We are especially excited by crossovers. Think hand-built tools, soft systems, critical care protocols, material experiments, poetic interfaces, and field notes from the in-between.
This is a space for unfinished projects, technical/visual research, unlikely connections, and shared curiosity.
Run of Show
7:00 PM → Doors
7:15 PM → Opening remarks
7:30 PM → PechaKucha presentations (3 to 4 talks)
8:15 PM → Panel and open discussion with all speakers
8:45 PM → Soft close and hangout
Submit Your Talk Idea
Submissions are open through July 11th. Please include:
– Your name
– A short bio
– A working title or theme for your talk
– A few lines about what you plan to share (it does not need to be polished)
– Any relevant links (optional)

This is a low-stakes, high-warmth space for sharing and listening. First-time presenters and interdisciplinary weirdos are especially encouraged to submit. If your talk is selected, then you’ll receive 3 free day passes to Ours!
This session of Talk Shop is in collaboration with Tuesday Design Society. Tuesday Design Society is a local meetup group bringing the Richmond design community together for a casual social hour every other Tuesday and other design-focused events throughout the year. We provide an outlet for educational lectures, professional development opportunities, and a way to connect with a community of peers across various design disciplines.
