About Event

Interaction designer and educator, Erin Malone, takes a look back to the days of the emergent discipline of interaction design and the role of women on this journey in her new book In Through the Side Door, Fifty Years of Women in Interaction Design.  In this talk she will be diving into the emergence of the role through short profiles of women paving the way for the discipline through design for the new graphical user interface, establishment of user research labs and protocols and interaction design outside of the personal computer. Set against the backdrop of the 2nd wave of feminism and changing laws in the United States providing working women new opportunities and protections, she will share how women made their own way into technology spaces usually reserved for men.
