SAVE THE DATE!

On June 22nd, Critical Pakistan is happy to host an evening on Pakistani Hip Hop culture, history and music in the garden of @oyounberlin. Both Eien (@eiensayali) Polymath (@darantigroup) will give us some input on the history and politics of rap music in Pakistan as well as current developments. After sharing experience from their respective scenes in Karachi and Lahore they will embark on two live sets full of beats and bars from their extensive repertoire. Rumor has it that both will also be performing one of their features together.

Following their input, the stage will be open for a jam situation where the crowd will not only be invited to chip in and give inputs for some freestyle intervention, but is also very welcome to bring their own (acoustic) instruments and beats to take the stage themselves.

The entry is free, but we’ll be collecting donations in order to cover travel expenses for the artists and technical support.

Please note: In case of bad weather, the event will be happening indoors at Oyoun (Lucy-Lameck-Straße 32, 12049 Berlin).

Bios

Polymath is a veteran hip-hop, metal and hardcore punk artist from Lahore, and has been involved in booking DIY shows since 2010 as well. As co-founder of hip hop collective Daranti Group, Polymath helped spearhead lyrical and old school east coast style hip-hop in Pakistan towards the late 2010’s.

Eien is a rapper from Karachi, active since 2017. Influenced by the sounds of Kanye West initially, Eien has been part of a growing subculture of hip-hop in his native city. He writes primarily music that an average Karachiite can relate to, and explores a variety of themes in his music from the political to the personal.
