5:15 pm - Virtual reality's risks : side effects & environmental impact

Alexis Souchet, Postdoctoral researcher, Fullbright visiting scholar at USC Institute for Creative Technologies

Virtual reality's rebirth in 2012 promised to be adopted in all industries. But, Virtual Reality provokes side effects on humans. Alexis Souchet's main focus consists in understanding and measuring those side effects. Alongside, Information and Communication Technologies have a growing impact on CO2 emissions. So will a potential "metaverse". Hence, he joined working groups to assess immersive technologies' environmental impacts. His talk will introduce the key issues and results he has produced across the past years.

Karim Jerbi, Université de Montréal, Centre UNIQUE and Mila AI Institute, Visiting professor at USC Viterbi School of Engineering

This talk will provide insights into the latest research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), neuroscience, and creativity. Dr Jerbi will discuss the rise of Neuro-AI, which is the emerging synergy between AI and human cognition. He will also explore the concept of creativity in both brains and machines, with a focus on generative AI models such as Dalle.E, Midjourney, and ChatGPT. The talk will examine whether these models can be truly creative and how their creativity compares to that of humans. Throughout the presentation, Dr Jerbi will provide illustrative examples to give the audience a better understanding of the current state of the field and its potential for future advancements. By the end of the talk, the audience will have gained insights into the intersection of AI, neuroscience, and creativity, and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
