Curious about social impact x the ocean
Catsharks (https://www.catsharks.org/) is the largest association dedicated to the conservation of sharks and rays in Spain. Founded by scientists specializing in the study of elasmobranchs, it combines science with a strong commitment to raising public awareness.
The association has three clearly defined lines of work.
Research: focused on the biology, ecology, distribution, and threats faced by many species of sharks and rays from a scientific point of view;
Conservation: through the management and protection of endangered species and the protection of their habitats; and
Outreach: through initiatives such as academic talks, art-science synergies, workshops, exhibitions, and practical activities for students, fishermen, and the general public.
This strategy has achieved a wide range of actions, both nationally and internationally. The Association has been part of more than 50 scientific studies in leading research journals, has presented its studies at national and international conferences, and has shared this knowledge with hundreds of people in order to promote awareness and respect for sharks and rays.
Catsharks wants to inspire a more responsible relationship with the sea, reminding us that protecting sharks and rays means protecting the health of ecosystems, biodiversity, and the oceans.
