MEET THE ARTIST: Pioneers of Computer Art - Analivia Cordeiro and others
Our first stop is the Mayor Gallery, where Analivia Cordeiro will discuss her father, Waldemar Cordeiro, a key figure in the Brazilian Concrete Art and early computer art movements. His innovative use of plotter machines and algorithmic logic merged technology with constructivist ideals.
Next, we’ll visit Galerie Charlot, featuring Manfred Mohr, a pioneer of algorithmic art, alongside contemporary artists like Antoine Schmitt, Nicolas Sassoon, and Jacques Perconte, who continue to push the boundaries of digital and generative art.
At RCM Galerie, we’ll encounter a rare gathering of female pioneers in early digital art, including Vera Molnar, Joan Truckenbrod, and Ruth Leavitt. Their revolutionary work in generative and computer-based art laid the foundation for today’s digital art practices, alongside influential figures like Herbert Franke, Vladimir Bonacic, and Tom Mikulic.
We will then visit the DANAE booth, presenting a new exhibition dedicated to pioneering artist Léa Lublin: Living Memories – When the Memory of History Meets the Memory of the Computer. Part of the Archaeology of Digital Art series, the exhibition unveils previously unseen works created as early as 1985 using the Quantel Paintbox, a groundbreaking digital imaging tool.
To conclude the tour, we’ll head to the Sarasin Foundation, where the Curated Edition of the web-based, audio-visual, real-time animation SPIRALPROJEKT will be shown for the first time. This new iteration creates a direct link to the 1983 version, one of the earliest examples of generative art. Artists Kevin Abosch, Hans Dehlinger, Mario Klingemann, and Susanne Päch were invited to explore the creative potential of this historically evolved software.
This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with the roots of digital and generative art through original works and insightful conversations.
