On March 28, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the region, with its epicenter near Mandalay, causing widespread devastation. Entire villages have been flattened, thousands have been displaced, and survivors are struggling without access to clean water, food, shelter, and medical care. In a country already suffering from the impacts of civil war, military violence, and economic collapse, this disaster has made an already dire situation even worse.
The earthquake destroyed critical infrastructure—roads are impassable, power lines are down, and hospitals are overwhelmed. Many affected areas, especially those outside military control, are being neglected by official relief efforts. Survivors, including ethnic and religious minorities, are relying on grassroots networks like Better Burma to get life-saving aid.
