The Steps Collective @ Makerversity
**UPDATE**
On Friday 8th November, we will be responding to global events elsewhere this week by focussing on the local.
We want to discuss local action around green spaces, from the perspective of social, economic and environmental regeneration.
Lizzie will start us with a short grounding exercise, then John will share a short story of moving from thinking about one green space (a garden) into a community project.
Then the main part of the session will be in smaller discussion groups where people can share how we grow things in the gardens, green spaces, allotments and edgelands around us.
Please bring an idea, or ideally a photo, of a green space that matters to you.
Our discussion will then be continued over drinks in the Paint Room, Makerversity’s bar & cafe, from 17:30.
We are very much looking forward to our time together.
Kind regards
The Steps Collective

We are doing this at Makerversity because of an exciting project called Land Lab they are just starting; over to Charlotte Gilks to explain:
Makerversity is a creative community and workspace with dedicated making workshops accessed by our members. Our workshop spaces include digital fabrication, woodwork, metalwork, biological materials, electronics and fashion as well as processes run by our members in private spaces.
Over Makerversity’s first 10 years, we've witnessed an explosion in interest in projects at the intersection of making, growing, science and nature - what is collectively known as Regenerative practice. These projects can often only exist outdoors and in nature - and cant be realized or tested in a normal workspace or workshop.
As of July 2024, we’ve established the Land Lab - made up of three 35 sqm land plots in South London. The space is just 20 mins by public transport from our space in Somerset House and large enough to host multiple member experiments and projects simultaneously - initially with a 3 x 3m plot available for each interested member. The Land Lab is open for experiments, projects and exploration. Alongside this it aims to provide a sanctuary for mental health and a space for our members to immerse themselves in growing and nature with an area set aside as a social food growing space for members.
The Land Lab aims to be London’s first experiment plot for pioneering regenerative practices and is the first step on a longer term project to explore what an “Agriversity” as part of the Makerversity ecosystem could look like.
