GDXpedition: Calgary Edition
Bringing the Best of GDX to Alberta’s Games Community
Interactive Arts Alberta (IAA) is a non-profit dedicated to growing capacity for game development and games culture in Alberta. Through initiatives like the Game Discovery Exhibition (GDX) and the Walkthrough Collaborative Centre, IAA is building a sustainable and connected indie games ecosystem across the province.
GDXpedition: Calgary Edition is part of a travelling initiative designed to bring the key learnings, insights, and spirit of GDX—North America’s largest celebration of indie game development—to communities across Alberta. This series fosters learning, connection, and inclusivity by engaging local developers, industry professionals, and newcomers through impactful conversations and networking opportunities.
Each GDXpedition stop features a thought-provoking talk from a guest speaker, covering essential topics such as anti-racism in games, diversity in the industry, and the importance of fostering inclusive spaces—including initiatives supporting women in games. Following the talk, attendees can connect during a casual social hour with light food and beverages, engage with local developers, and build meaningful industry relationships. Developers are encouraged to bring some of their work to show others.
IAA is grateful to the Calgary Game Developers Association (CGDA) for their support in bringing this event to the community. If you're local to Calgary, we highly encourage you to participate in their events and be part of their ever-growing network of developers.
Whether you’re a seasoned developer, student, or industry curious, GDXpedition: Calgary Edition is your opportunity to learn, share, and strengthen Alberta’s games ecosystem.
This event is proudly sponsored by The Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF), which supports and enables community groups and organizations through grants, services, and a network of public, research, and community partners. Learn more at https://crrf-fcrr.ca.
