About Event

Please note: Because of the strong interest in the event, in order to accommodate more participants, the venue has changed to 1250 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 700 ("Metro Offices"). Convenient Metros: Farragut North or Dupont Circle.

Join World Collective and thought leaders for an educational and engaging discussion where you'll explore how increasing the use of cotton and other natural fibers in textiles can boost prices and incomes for farmers, including in the U.S., while mitigating climate change.

Experts from the cotton and natural fiber sectors and the slow fashion movement will help answer these questions:

  • What positive impact does growing and processing cotton and other natural fibers have on farmers and others in the supply chain and on the environment?

  • What are examples where negative impacts from consumption and production have been mitigated or eliminated?

Led by experts in agriculture and textiles, speakers include:

·       Keshav Kranthi, Chief Scientist, International Cotton Advisory Committee

·       Brent Crossland, Founder, 5Loc Cotton, Founder, Crossland Consultants and responsible cotton practitioner

·       Heidi Barr, Founder/CEO, Pennsylvania Flax Project

·       Representative Chellie Pingree, U.S. Congress (Maine’s 1st District), organic sheep farmer, yarn manufacturer, and Founder, Congressional Slow Fashion Caucus

·       Jeanine Ballone, Founder & Chief Sustainability Officer, World Collective

Moderated by Patricia E. Langan, Advisory Board Member, World Collective, and Founder & Chief Curator, Women for Women’s Wear

The speakers will present exciting solutions from innovative projects around the world, including a planned net zero carbon village in Cameroon, the re-introduction of flax farming in the U.S., regenerative cotton sourcing by fashion brands, and the world’s most comprehensive marketplace for sustainable textiles, World Collective. We’ll have a round robin of moderated questions to the experts, then we’ll turn to the audience for comments and questions and get the discussion going!

Hosted by World Collective, the global digital ecosystem for smarter textile sourcing and selling and Women for Women's Wear, the community of women living in the U.S. who want to find and buy ethical fashion designed/made by women more easily.

Since this is lunchtime, feel free to bring your own lunch. We will serve light refreshments.

Come ready to learn, ask questions, and connect with others!
