About Event

Our first Hardware Meetup of the year and 55th Boston Hardware Meetup overall is coming up soon! This month, we'll be at Formlabs again, and boy do they have something special planned for us.

Have you ever wanted to look under the hood at how companies like Formlabs commercialized new product ideas? Buckle up, because that's what we'll be discussing at this event, along with a new product announcement to go with it.

We have a great group of guest speakers

  • Maya Calabria, Technical Program Manager at Formlabs. Maya will be discussing a new product she and her team are working on. She'll walk us through how the concept of the product was developed, how she and her team quickly built prototypes to validate it, and how they are now ramping up for mass production.

  • Brewster LaMacchia, founder of Clockworks Signal Processing, makers of modular hardware for analog or digital signal processing from 8 to 256 channels. Brewster will discuss how to plan for effective and scalable electronics manufacturing during the product design phase, and explore some of the things that can go wrong. During the networking time before and after the talks, you can try your hand at placing surface mount components with tweezers.

  • Jeff Ciesielski is the Director of Research at LeafLabs, a physical computing R&D firm.  Jeff will be discussing the complexities of designing and manufacturing an affordable but fashionable backpack for rats capable of concurrently recording 2048 channels of neurological data at a rate of about 45MB/second, all while operating from a battery and being about the size of a nickel.
