NYC Plover Project Rockaway Beach Bird Walk & Biodiversity Meet Up
Three billion birds have been lost due to human disturbance, development and climate change in the past few decades. Every species of shorebird in North America is in decline. With that, there is cause for hope. Join NYC Plover Project, a movement of New Yorkers who are working hard to fiercely protect an endangered species, Piping Plovers, and other fragile shorebirds that call NYC home. While the Plovers have left on their fall migrations, we will host a free beach bird walk open to all, to see birds passing through and then meet up afterwards at an area cafe - Beach Dunes Cafe - for a moderated discussion. You will walk away armed with ways in which you can champion biodiversity in our city and help protect the one endangered species in our midst. A limited number of binoculars will be provided for use during the walk. This event is accessible via MTA.
