6:30p - 7:30p: More Networking 🕺

The event will focus on innovations in Apache Iceberg (https://iceberg.apache.org/)

We will discuss topics around Open-Source Data Analytics, Open Table Formats (OTF), software concepts like Transactional Data Lakes or Lakehouse, advancements in AI/ML including generative AI, and many more topics of mutual interest that leverage Apache Iceberg.

During the sessions, we will provide you tips to get involved within the community, you will learn more about how the community is collaborating to grow the technology, and software/solutions that ease problem solving and improve user experiences.

Speakers

Open Table Format Interoperability with Apache XTable

Open table formats like Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, and Apache Hudi provide a robust and flexible foundation for modern data lakes by supporting features such as schema evolution, versioning, and transactional consistency. Their interoperability is critical, as it allows organizations to avoid lock-in, choose the best tools for each use case, and adapt more easily to emerging technologies. Apache XTable (incubating) is a cross-table converter for lakehouse table formats that facilitates interoperability across data processing systems and query engines.

Rahil Chertara

Previously worked in AWS EMR's Data Lake Team, tackling challenges in cloud-based infrastructure and scalable analytics. Contributed to open table format projects such as Apache Hudi and Apache Iceberg. Currently working in the Data Infrastructure Team at Onehouse, which focuses on Streaming/Ingestion, Table Services, and Apache XTable.

Anand Sivaram - Software Engineer, Microsoft

A general model of Catalog Federation in Apache Polaris

Federation is growing as an increasingly important feature for Apache Iceberg catalogs to unify workloads across a range of disparate data sources. We'll talk about how Apache Polaris approaches this problem to address a variety of related use cases, and explore the relationship between federation of access-control/policies, identities, and catalog entities."

Dennis Huo is a Principal Engineer at Snowflake and an Apache Polaris committer who has enjoyed working in a variety of projects related to Open Source Data Analytics for over a decade.

Iceberg + Delta: Collaborating Across Table Formats

This talk explores the internals of both Iceberg and Delta and shows how their core concepts are mapped to one another. We'll focus on interoperability and collaboration between the two projects. And end the session by implementing Iceberg data compaction using Delta.

Kevin Liu is an Apache Iceberg committer and an open source contributor. He previously worked as a software engineer at Stripe running Iceberg at scale
