Climate Parties are a series of immersive learning & ecosystem building events curated to enable interdisciplinary solutionists, either already working in or seriously considering a transition to the Climate space, to discover more of their kind across domains and cross-pollinate ideas for collaborative action.
Our climate parties across 7 cities over the past 2 years have brought together 2500+ diverse Climate stakeholders, from CXOs to students, and culminated in tangible actions.
About the immersive experience
Tired of seeing real-estate ads left, right, and centre lately? Chennai's built-up footprint has been growing rapidly in the recent past and it comes at a huge cost. The loss of wetlands has shrunk our city’s natural ability to absorb and manage storm-water, making us more vulnerable to floods, droughts, aquifer depletion, and urban heat islands.
But all hope is not lost! The team at Sponge Collaborative has been designing nature-based blue-green infrastructure to bring back the city’s lungs and reservoirs for urban resilience.
We're taking you to one of their flagship projects, the Dr MS Swaminathan Wetland Eco Park in Porur, which is one of India’s largest demonstrations of sponge parks and blue-green design - being made a case study for other cities across the world to model. It shows how restored urban wetlands can double up as climate infrastructure, helping our city adapt and thrive.
Along with Sponge Collaborative, we're hosting a guided tour of this stunning 16.6 acre park. You’ll learn directly from the designers about the park’s hydro-ecological design elements: how it captures, filters, and stores 90% of local rainwater (that’s over 30 million litres!) and how it supports over 85 species of native flora, fauna, and migratory birds. Birders, you’re going to love this one!
