How to Be a Neuroaffirming Leader (Even If You’re Not the Boss)
Though we have a better collective understanding of neurodivergence (ND) today than in recent decades, there are many factors that prevent employees from disclosing their neurodivergence in the workplace, including persistent stigma, misinformation, and systemic diagnostic gaps for marginalized groups. Many workplace structures are not very ND-friendly, which further contributes to higher rates of un- and underemployment for ND folks (up to 85% for autistic people, for example).
But wait! There’s good news here. If you’re familiar with ND advocacy, you may already be aware that common workplace accommodations for ND employees, when implemented team or organization-wide, can help improve performance and workplace satisfaction for everyone. Plus, these techniques can be implemented with little to no resource cost (time, money, energy), and could even save resources in the long run. Yes, it’s true!
Employing strategies to “lead from any seat,” it’s also possible to create neuroaffirming spaces even if you’re not the manager. There are unique challenges present with team leadership, peer advocacy and self advocacy, and we’ll explore each with curiosity and a sense of adventure.
In this 60-minute webinar, you’ll learn about:
- Some frequent struggles ND employees face in the workplace
- Easy-to-implement accommodations to combat these challenges, why they help ND employees, and how they’ll benefit neurotypical employees, too
- How to foster a neuroaffirming team and/or company culture as a people leader, peer advocate or self advocate by leading from any seat
Plus, judgment-free, anonymous Q&A!
You’ll also have a chance to ask your most pressing questions about neurodivergence in the workplace while remaining anonymous if you choose. Are you a manager struggling to connect with your neurodivergent employees? Are you considering taking on a leadership role but concerned about autistic burnout? Are you feeling disconnected from your team because they don’t understand your communication style? Don’t hesitate to ask a question - it might help someone else, too!
