​About the Expert: Harish Hande is an Indian social entrepreneur, who co-founded SELCO India in 1995. He was awarded with the Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2011 for his pragmatic efforts to put solar power technology in the hands of the poor, through his social enterprise SELCO India. As SELCO’s managing director, he has pioneered access to solar electricity for more than half a million people in India, where more than half the population does not have electricity, through customized home-lighting systems and innovative financing. The Magsaysay Award is widely considered Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize. He’s also one of 21 Young Leaders for India’s 21st Century by Business Today and was recognized as Social Entrepreneur of the Year for 2007 by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and the Nand and Jeep Khemkha Foundation.
