About Event

Resilient Minds, Inclusive Planet's three-part event series will kick off with authors and psychologists Dr. Collins and Dr.Celano’s children's book, Something Happened to our Planet, followed by a presentation on climate change's impact on mental health. Youth activists and bold minds will follow with a panel on the invisible and visible impacts of climate change within their communities, families, and lives. This event series is in partnership with Houston Energy and Climate Week and Virtual Oasis Tech, a climate change edu-health tech venture by Ryn Delpapa, a Watson Institute Fellowship Sistla Planet-Scale Fellow, and Watson Institute.

Our first event in this series will be held virtually - tune in on September 9, 2024 at 5:00 PM CST.

5:15-6:15 PM CST: Book reading and presentation by Dr.Marietta Collins intersecting climate activism for youth and climate change impacts on mental health.

6:15-7:15 PM CST: Panel of Youth, Parents, Environmentalists, and Educators: What’s the visible and invisible impact of Climate Change for yourself, your community, and the planet?

Q&A will follow each session, so bring your questions.

This impactful event from 5:00-7:30 PM CST is intended for:

  • K-12 Youth and Parents: Hear from the youth on their outlook on climate change and engage with tools, communities, and resources available to foster resilience in children and teens.

  • Educators and Healthcare Practitioners: Connect with the minds and hearts of the education and healthcare industries that will support mental health in our society.

  • Disability Advocates and Community Members: Engage in meaningful conversations about the actions needed to create a more inclusive and regenerative future. Gain insights from the neurodiverse and disabled community members and organizations on their hopes, needs, and expertise as we design solutions to address climate change in Houston and the world to support all bodies and minds. Follow @virtualoasistech for updates and previews on the speakers and panelists in this unique event-series launching on the first day of Houston Energy and Climate Week!

Our solutions must be co-designed across generations and communities to support planetary health for all. This event calls on all of us to listen, connect, respect, and collaborate across sectors and areas to create a more inclusive emergency response, plan, and innovation for the generations of now and tomorrow.
