Zen Painting: The Six Persimmons practice 禅画: 六柿图练习
Description
In this week's class, we will be looking at what defines Zen painting and what makes a "simple" persimmon composition a masterpiece. We will explore madness and enlightenment in monk-painters' works. Then, we will be practicing ink techniques in persimmon still life paintings with fundamental tools (brush, ink, paper, inkstone) in Chinese painting.
We will provide ink, paint, brushes, and paper for class use. You may take all the artwork you’ve produced with you!
Every “Ink Painting Lab” is composed of lectures on Chinese ink art history, painting technique demonstration and practicing sessions. You can click on this link to learn more about the full semester class. Classes are beginner-friendly. Themes are interconnected yet self-contained. Students may come for the full 8-week class, specific topic(s) and/or at any point in the semester!
