About Event

A sketchbook can be a way to see your world, and a way to record how it changes. In the years of early parenting, a sketchbook can become your log of a new life blossoming before your very eyes!

Join Nishant Jain and Gayle Kabaker for a FREE 60-min virtual session where they flip through their sketchbooks and art supplies, and discuss their unique drawing styles.

Since his birth two months ago, Nishant has been drawing his son everyday. (The first drawings were made during labour at the hospital!) Using a quick, observational drawing style, he has turned his sketchbook into a new parent's journal. The practice of drawing the same subject every day is also giving him the confidence to expand his toolkit and try new tools and media.

Gayle keeps a sketchbook to document her life and travels. When she became a grandma for the first time 3 years ago she began drawing her granddaughter. At first these drawings and paintings were in her regular sketchbook. But soon she started a sketchbook dedicated to only her granddaughter. Now she has two granddaughters! and is on sketchbook #4. She made two rules when she began this project. It has to always be fun, and there is no pressure to make the paintings actually look like her granddaughters.

In this session, Gayle and Nishant will:

📖 Flip through their sketchbooks

💌 Speak about drawing as a way to pay loving attention

🖌️ Discuss their unique art styles

From this session, you will:

🙌🏽 Learn about different art styles and media

📸 Compare the benefits of drawing from family photos vs direct observation

✍🏼 Pick up useful tips for both techniques

💡 Find the inspiration to direct your artistic eye towards your family and unsuspecting little ones!
