About Event

Join us this October for an incense making workshop and tea party! We’ll be joined by Helen Yang from Kudzu Club, who grew up making incense with her grandmother and sharing cups of tea throughout, and is now so excited to share it with you all <3

Learn about the history of incense and the making process before crafting your own, choosing your scent and shaping your incense into cones, sticks, or spirals. Take home your clean, handcrafted incense to burn all fall long. All materials + tea provided!

As with all RecCreate events, you can expect to go on this journey with a room full of lovely strangers. We’ll offer opportunities for connection throughout our time— encouraging the spirit of the collective. It is (so) much more fun to get to craft together.

If you’re anything like us and want to live a life filled to the brim with creativity— we have space for you at our long, communal (naturally, handmade in brooklyn:) art/craft table.

See you there!!

Scholarships

We're excited to announce that we have two scholarship spaces (50% off the workshop cost and one at 100% off the workshop cost) reserved for people in need of financial assistance. Priority will be given to QTBIPOC individuals who have financial need. Please fill out this form to be considered! Applications will be accepted through 12/3/24.

About the artist

Helen Yang is based in Brooklyn, where she thinks fondly of sunshine, the smell of honey yuzu jasmine tea, and dancing with her eyes closed. She is a writer, a zine-maker, a poet, and a labor organizer. Her work focuses on cultural criticism, the importance of communal care, and revolutionary joy.

What can I expect from a workshop at RecCreate?

Workshops at RecCreate are like the art school education your parents never let you get, at a tiny fraction of the price led by NYC’s most talented creatives + educators. We make sure you leave with something very special along with the know-how to continue exploring at home. Our emphasis is on education, creative exploration and tool proficiency
