Olito Social Club: In My Feelings
Think Olio is an ongoing experiment in lifelong learning. We are a community of open-minded people who gather to exchange ideas with new friends and connect over art, literature, and philosophy.
Olito is the Friday night social club born out of our community, giving us a place to gather each week. You're always welcome, whether you come solo or with friends - the vibes are communal and thoughtful.
This Friday, our theme will be "Feelings". Together, we’ll explore the strange terrain of our inner lives. How do we even begin to describe what we feel? What metaphors do we reach for when words fall short — do you carry your sadness like a backpack? Does your joy feel like a beam of sunshine, or a still lake? And how might someone sitting right next to you experience that same emotion in a totally different way?
We'll explore questions like:
Do you agree that there are basically 4 main feelings? Joy. Sadness. Fear. Anger
What determines how we experience feelings at any given time?
Is it really possible to not identify with (or be attached to) our feelings?
We’ll also consider the role of neurodiversity in all of this. How do people with different cognitive profiles — ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivities, or other ways of processing the world — relate to their feelings differently? Can we learn from those differences to expand our collective emotional vocabulary?
All are welcome! We'll create the conversation cards so all you have to do it show up, be open, and surrender to the Olio process of making new connections <3
What to expect:
8-9pm: This is the time to arrive, get settled and order some amazing pizza and a first round (the kitchen closes by 9pm).
9-10pm: This hour will be facilitated with a new conversation prompt every 10 minutes based on our theme giving you a chance to meet all the lovely folks in the room. (Ofc this is optional and there's a great backyard space if you don't want to participate)
10-11pm: Free flowing hang out time
11pm: Get those numbers! You don't have to go home, but you've gotta let us close down the bar because some of us have school on Saturday morning. You've got new crushes and new friends and you're riding the high of creating new community. See you next week!
Ethos of the Olito wine bar <3
In a community effort against the isolation and political nihilism we can sometimes feel in this city, custom-made conversation cards on communal tables invite guests to explore culture, creativity, and connection with strangers at our social club / wine bar.
We dream of a phone-less bar. We won't tell you to put it away but our hope is that the vibe will be so good, you won't even remember you have an instagram.
Come support and bring that good energy so we can keep this thing going and grow roots for our Olio community <3
