ABOUT LISA:
Lisa Micheli, PhD, is a passionate and dedicated earth scientist who is a leader in conducting applied climate-biodiversity research and convening climate resilience networks. She is a quantitative generalist, with experience spanning biodiversity conservation, water resources protection, wildfire resilience, and climate mitigation and adaptation. Having served her North Bay community as a megafire “second responder,” she has led multiple collaborative wildfire hazard, recovery, and adaptation initiatives for our region. She served as the founding CEO of the Pepperwood Foundation, a regional resilience hub based on a 3200-acre field station in Sonoma County, from 2009–2024.
As an independent consultant, she now advises teams bringing remote sensing and AI data solutions to front-line communities. She earned a Master's in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Energy and Resources from UC Berkeley. She is a Fellow of the Cal Academy, a member of the American Geophysical Union, and serves on the boards of After the Fire USA and the Wildlands Network.
ABOUT MICHAEL:
Michael is a media professional and content specialist with over a decade of experience in top-tier outlets like Reuters and The Economist Group. He helps people and organizations talk about climate change in an authentic, impactful way. From climate-tech startups to established energy companies to educational platforms, his clients are telling climate stories to an audience seeking solutions and tired of the fatalism often associated with this daunting topic.
His decade-plus experience living and working in greater China has given him a perspective that cuts across cultures. In 2019, he moved back to his hometown of San Francisco, just in time for the devastating wildfires of summer 2020. The day that the sky turned the same color he recalls from his days in Beijing was a turning point. He made up his mind to focus on global warming and contribute a piece, however small, to solving this puzzle.
