About Event

Urban Planner and Futurist Lafayette Cruise is exploring how future of physical and digital public spaces could look and feel like in a society where our need for belonging is supported, not exploited. In particular, what do (new) public spaces look like when we strive to make one of the most uncomfortable times of life - adolescence - a period of community embrace and public care. We'll explore how social, physical, political, and digital infrastructure could produce a world where public spaces are cultivate a sense of belonging even during that hormonal, rambunctious, disorienting moment in every one's life.

In these virtual session we will build worlds, curate empathy for future communities, and design the supportive artifacts for this future of belonging.

This session will focus on Artifact Building:

What technologies, tools, infrastructures can emerge in this new world? How do our existing tools have to change to support a sense of belonging?

The previous sessions focused on worldbuilding and character building—exploring how including adolescents as legitimate parts of public space would change our ideas of what a public space can and should be, and character building—how can we relate differently to ensure that people in our community feel a robust sense of belonging? What type of specialized work or community skills need to emerge for this aim?
