Transformational Adaptation: Building Resilience and Accelerating Action Towards Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Stocktake
The outcomes of the global stocktake on adaptation are pivotal, emphasizing the need for sustained momentum in addressing climate challenges. Transformational adaptation is increasingly recognized for its potential to build long-term resilience against climate impacts, and COP29 will be a key opportunity for Parties to refine its definition and application. By examining various spatial scales and sectors, stakeholders can share successful implementation strategies and identify best practices. Moreover, discussing methods for assessing progress in transformative approaches will be crucial for planning, financing, and executing effective adaptation measures globally. As we approach the 2030 deadline for the SDGs and for halving emissions in this critical decade, the urgency to accelerate these transformation cannot be overstated. It’s essential to rethink existing systems and embrace fundamental changes in goals and design to ensure that resilience is built into the fabric of our societal structures. This holistic approach will not only address climate risks but also promote sustainable development and equity.
