Inspired by Iain McGilchrist’s The Master and His Emissary, we’ll explore the idea that intuition, embodied knowing, and right-brain processes are not just complementary to machine intelligence—they’re essential to ensuring we don’t lose our way in an increasingly algorithmic world.
McGilchrist argues that our modern civilization, shaped by left-brain dominance—analytical, reductionist, and rigid—has reached a turning point. The “emissary” (the left hemisphere) was meant to serve the “master” (the right), but has forgotten its place. As AI becomes more capable, the real challenge is not building smarter systems, but making sure our human capacity for holistic perception, creativity, and meaning-making leads the way.
